HETEROMASK™

HETEROMASK kills pest insects using natural biological controls. The active units (AU) are microscopic beneficial "insect-eating" nematodes, a strain of Heterorhabditis bacteriophora. They kill a variety of pests important in lawns, gardens, and in horticulture. HETEROMASK works in moist soil at temperatures from 60° to 85° F. AU's do not have to be eaten, rather they seek out pests, penetrating below soil surfaces to attack and kill them. Once in the soil, HETEROMASK in soil survives air temperatures below 0° F.

In addition to soil pests, some boring insects in wood are also killed by HETEROMASK. HETEROMASK may be more effective than some other nematode strains for white grubs, beetle larvae.

Safety

Beneficial nematodes are already found throughout temperate soils, but concentrations are too low to be effective. Horticultural practices such as cultivation and soil steaming kill AU's. Therefore, soils need to be augmented with HETEROMASK.

HETEROMASK is completely harmless to people, pets, and plants, by ingestion or injection. Plants are completely resistant; there is no phytotoxicity. The US Environmental Protection Agency has exempted HETEROMASK from the registration required for chemicals (Federal Register vol. 47, #106, 23928).

Use

Over 230 pests are susceptible. Dosages for some of the insects killed by HETEROMASK are listed below:

• White grubs apply 19,000 AU /sq.ft. to control. HETEROMASK is sprayed or watered on premoistened lawns,
• Black vine weevils require about 35,000 AU/sq.ft. of drip zone around shrubs. A 9" pot requires about 12,200 AU. Applications are injected into soils with a fertilizer probe or mixed with potting soil. For established bushes and trees inject a or hoe in a water suspension of HETEROMASK.

HETEROMASK is available on 25 million and 50 million AU sizes in a  dispersible sprayable form in ziplock bags.

Bags should be refrigerated in the butter tray at 50 F, then used as soon as possible , within 20days, after arrival.
