Product Description

SCANMASK is a biological product to kill pest insects. The active units (AU) in SCANMASK are microscopic juvenile Steinernema feltiae (Sf) on an inert carrier. Sf are beneficial insect "eating" nematodes. The Sf in SCANMASK are especially selected for favorable behavior in the field. SCANMASK affects only insects. In a moist dark environment it kills almost all pest insects. Therefore, SCANMASK is ideally suited to combat pests in and on soil and those that bore into wood, trees, and shrubs. SCANMASK does not have to be passively eaten by pests, rather it actively hunts, penetrates, and kills them. A single AU can kill an insect. Larvae, caterpillars, grubs, and maggots, are most susceptible, but adults are also killed by SCANMASK. This action is unique to SCANMASK; unlike other biologicals that must be eaten by insects and then kill only certain larvae. Steinernema nematodes have been described in "Sunset" and in numerous issues of "Organic Gardening."   BioLogic's special granular, slow release formulation protects AU's,  allows visualization of the application.  No spraying needed for most insects.

Safety

SCANMASK is safe for people. pets, and plants. Vertebrates- humans, dogs, birds, etc. - are completely resistant. Earthworms and helpful insects like bees, ladybugs, and lacewings are also resistant. Plants are completely resistant; there is no phytotoxicity. SCANMASK is exempt from the EPA registration required for chemical pesticides.

Storage

SCANMASK can be stored  in a refrigerator at 38F (4C) for at least 20 months with full potency. After it is applied to the soil, the AU can survive two summers and one winter with temperatures below 0F (-17C).

Use

• For lawns & gardens 1 pint contains7 million AU. For use in soil concentrated SCANMASK is diluted with soil, peat moss, etc., for use on boring insects dilute with water.
• For pest insects spending all or part of their life in or on soil, apply SCANMASK as a mulch, as a top dressing, in seed furrows, or in transplant holes at planting. No expensive equipment needed.
• For lawn insects use as a topdressing, then water in. Use 1 pint to spot treat 370 sq. ft. infested with white grubs.
• For boring insects prepare a water suspension of SCANMASK. Inject the suspension into burrows or spray it. Pressure, hose end, or aerosol sprayers are suitable. SCANMASK will hunt down and kill pests in their burrows as no chemical can.
• SCANMASK is compatible with botanical and biological insecticides.
• SCANMASK can be applied during the fall, spring, or summer, any time soil is not frozen. It works on overwintering forms of pest insects when they are in soil, bark, or ground litter.
• Indoors use SCANMASK to fight pests like black vine weevils, fungus gnats and their larvae on houseplants or hot house vegetables. Spread it on top of the soil or use it in potting soil.
